Capstone Project

Sorry about the delay. It has taken me a while to get this figured out and connected to everyone else! For my capstone project, I will be organizing and producing a concert. As a background to my integrated studies degree, I am going into business and communications. The organizing of the concert will correlate to the business side, while the production and publicizing of the concert will take care of the communications. I will be advertising the event and taking care of all ticket sales, etc. I would like to act as a PR type agent for the bands and event, as well.

The headlining band I have chosen and have personal connections to is Allred. They are a pretty popular, local band. I think I could pull in a pretty good profit margin in using this band. My ideas for opening bands are, Critter, Technicolorsound, Goodnight Annabella and Tessa Barton. I also have connections to all of these performers. I am open to, and would like any other recommendations for opening performers.

My plan is to work as closely with UVU on this project as possible. I would like to hold the concert at UVU and possibly use theater tech students to help with stage management and any other lighting and sound projects. I have a sister who does all of the advertising for a local company that could help me design and produce the flyers and other advertising. I am still undecided on which professors to work with as my advisors, so if any of you have any suggestions for that, I would love some input.

I will be making a portfolio to document my entire project. It will be documented with copies of my advertising strategies, pictures of the event, data of ticket sales and record of promotional events. I will also record all of my pre-concert data; as in, band research, venue research and my organizational efforts.

Because I am a little late on posting this, I am posting all of my recent research along with this first post. I have recently talked with Technicolorsound, Critter, and Tessa Barton, who have all agreed to play in the show. I have not contacted Allred yet because I need to further my research with UVU to find out when and where the show will be held. Also, I have decided I want to donate all proceeds to a local charity. I need to further research that, but would love any input or suggestions for that as well.
